Wandering through the Ex-Convent Ex Convento del Desierto de Los Leones Playing on the zip line at Hacienda San Martín Hacienda San Martín Metepec
Useful Tips
If you decide to stay on the outskirts of the city in Lerma then definitely stop by Hacienda San Martín for a meal. The Hacienda, or ranch, is absolutely gorgeous. The traditional Mexican food served there is some of the best and you can explore a bit of the hotel and church while you are there. There is a playground for children and vegetarian options.

No matter where you stay in the city you definitely have to make a trip to the Ex Convento del Desierto de Los Leones. This old convent is one of the most breathtaking places in the city. Hidden away in the forest it boasts bright gardens surrounded by gorgeous architecture. I have been here twice and I can't wait to go again.

Metepec is a very cute area of town to walk around in. We visited two large churches there and did some shopping in the artisan markets.

For dinner we headed out to NorteSur. It's a chain restaurant in Mexico that is absolutely to die for. With mole, consomé, tacos and seafood NorteSur exceeds excellence with every bite. They also have delicious vegetarian options as well.

Museo Nacional de Antropología National Anthropology Museum Exploring the City Palacio de Bellas Artes
Useful Tips
We ate breakfast at my fiancé's home and then got started on a big day of exploring. The National Anthropology Museum is a must. It's one of the most famous museums in the world and it has definitely earned this title. Go explore Mayan and Aztec ruins and artifacts among others. It will blow your mind.

While you're in the area it is definitely worthwhile to climb up to Chapultepec castle. It's very famous and gives you a wonderful view of the city once you reach the top. We didn't have time to go on this occasion but I have been before and it's beautiful.

You can't go to Mexico City without visiting the City Center. The architecture is almost European in style and there's so much to see. There are cathedrals, restaurants, shops, museums and government buildings to explore. We shopped for a bit and visited the cathedral in the main square.

On this day we tried to get a reservation at a restaurant called Azul but didn't get in. Instead we went to another restaurant in the same building, Puntarena. The food was bright and delicious. They have mole and amazing seafood and an exquisite desert menu as well. They also have vegetarian options.

In the evening we went to Palacio de Bellas Artes and this was everyone's favourite part of the night. Every Wednesday at the Palace you can see the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. The show featured music and dance from all over Mexico and will leave you at the edge of your seat, wanting to see more.

Nopales (cactus) at the pyramid site My fiancé and I atop the Pyramid of the Sun Celebrating our engagement at the pyramids
Useful Tips
If you go to Mexico City a must see is Teotihuacán. It's about two hours from the city but totally worth the trip. Teotihuacán is an ancient pyramid sight built by the Teotihuacanos. You can climb and explore the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. Make sure to wear sunscreen even if it's cloudy. I got a horrible sunburn there. Check out the photos to see how gorgeous this historic site is.

For the rest of the day we took it easy and hung out at the home of my fiancé's family.

Useful Tips
It's a bit of a long drive to Cholula but very worth it. The main attraction is the Pyramid. The Pyramid of Cholula boasts the largest pyramid base in the world. It is extremely massive, yet because it's so overgrown with grass, most of it looks like a small mountain. At the top of the pyramid is a beautiful church that you can climb up to and explore. We did this and then explored the artisanal shops in Cholula. It was a rainy day but the pyramid, church and town were absolutely wonderful.

I don't remember the name of the restaurant we visited in Cholula but there are lots of good restaurants to choose from in town. Just ask to see the menu before you enter to find out where you want to eat.

Day 6

Activities
cineplex
Time spent: 1-2 hrs
Useful Tips
Since we had such a busy week we decided to take this last day easy and relax. We went to one of Mexico City's many malls to shop around a bit and see a movie. We saw the latest Spider-Man movie not just to see the film but to experience the VIP movie experience. Mexico City has many VIP movie theatres that have big comfortable reclining chairs and amazing service. By amazing service I mean there's a button next to every chair that you press which signals to a waiter to come and take your order. You can order everything from popcorn, to tacos, to burgers and all for a great price. If you're cold you can even order a blanket! If you're ever in Mexico City and you have some down time and want to relax, then go to a VIP Cineplex movie theatre.

Day 7

Useful Tips
My parents and sister jetted off after a very wonderful visit early in the morning on this day. Since my fiancé and his family are all from Mexico and I have been living here for a few months we were able to design this itinerary with a lot of experience regarding the area. Even though we had a fairly rainy week we got to see and do so much together. If you ever get the chance, definitely go to Mexico City, and don't miss any of these attractions.
Happy travels!
